Design Your Own Strap: The Custom Watch Straps Guide

Discover the craftsmanship, possibilities, and personal touch behind every made-to-order strap.

Why Choose a Custom Watch Strap?

Finding the right strap for your watch isn’t always easy. Standard options can feel generic; maybe the fit isn’t quite right, the style doesn’t match, or it simply lacks character. That’s why I offer the option of a custom watch strap, made just for you.

Each strap I create is handcrafted to order, using high-quality leathers, carefully selected linings, and strong linen thread. You choose the leather, the stitching color, the buckle style, and the size: I’ll take care of the rest.

This isn’t about picking something off a shelf. It’s about making something that feels truly yours: a strap that fits your watch perfectly and reflects your own style.

Custom Watch Straps

Every strap I make takes between 3 and 5 weeks to complete, depending on the design. I work with some of the finest leathers and materials available, and you’ll be able to choose everything: from the type of leather and thread color to the buckle style, lining, and fit.

Whether you’re looking for a timeless classic or a truly one-of-a-kind piece, this guide will walk you through all the customization options step by step, with notes and suggestions to help you shape your design.

If you’re not sure where to begin, feel free to explore the options below or take a look at the leathers I use to get a better feel for the materials. And if you’d prefer some help, I’m always happy to offer a free consultation.  Together, we’ll craft a custom watch strap that fits your timepiece and your personal style.

Customization Options

Crafted by hand, tailored to your style. Discover how to create the perfect strap for your timepiece.
Leather Type & Color

Choose from my carefully curated selection of leathers, including French Chèvre, Buttero, Pueblo, and exotic hides like alligator. Each one brings its own character: from the subtle grain of chèvre to the bold patina of Pueblo, and the timeless elegance of exotic skins.

Thread Color

Stitching adds both structure and personality. I work with Meisi linen thread, known for its strength and beauty, and available in a wide palette: from soft neutrals to vibrant contrast tones.

Stitching Pattern

Stitching is more than just function, it’s part of the design. You can go with full-length saddle stitching, subtle reinforcement stitches at the ends, or something in between. Every stitch is done by hand for strength and lasting beauty.

Edge Finish

Choose a subtle, tone-on-tone edge or go bold with contrast. I hand-paint and burnish the edges in multiple layers to give them a refined, durable finish that complements the strap’s design.

Lug / Buckle Width

You decide the taper: whether you prefer a dramatic drop (like 20mm → 16mm) or a subtle one (20mm → 18mm), I’ll cut the strap to match your watch and wrist perfectly.

Strap Length

I offer standard and custom lengths to ensure a perfect fit. You can measure your current strap, follow our strap sizing guide or contact me if you need a different size.

Strap End

Choose the tip shape that reflects your aesthetic:

  • Ogive – pointed and refined
  • Rounded – timeless and soft
  • Chamfered – angular and modern
  • Trapezoid – bold and masculine
Padding Style
  • Flat: Minimalist and sleek
  • Half-Padded: Balanced, classic feel
  • Full-Padded: Thicker and more structured

Padding gives body to the strap and enhances wrist presence, especially on larger watches.

Buckle Option

Reuse your original buckle, or choose from my selection of hand-finished options in silver, gold, rose gold, or black; all matched to your strap’s width and style.

Connectors Color (for Apple Watch only)

If you’re ordering for Apple Watch, we provide matching stainless steel connectors in silver, gold, rose gold or black.

Not Sure Where to Begin?

Designing a custom strap is about more than just choosing a leather. It’s about finding the right fit for both your watch and your wrist. If you're unsure about lug width, strap length, or padding, this is the best place to begin:
