Changing your watch strap is one of the easiest ways to refresh the look of your timepiece. All the straps I craft at Roiberd Atelier come with quick-release spring bars, so you can install them in seconds; no tools required. Whether you’re upgrading to a new strap or simply rotating between favorites, this guide will show you exactly how to install your watch strap safely and properly.
What You’ll Need
-
Your watch
-
Your new Roiberd strap
-
A clean, soft surface (like a microfiber cloth or watch mat)
-
(Optional) Spring bar tool. Only if your watch does not support quick-release
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Prepare Your Workspace
Place your watch face-down on a soft surface to avoid scratching the crystal or case. Make sure you’re working under good lighting, so you can clearly see the lugs and spring bars.
2. Remove the Old Strap
If your current strap has quick-release spring bars:
Slide the small lever on the underside of the strap inward and gently pull the strap away from the watch case. Repeat on the other side.
If your strap doesn’t have quick-release:
Use a spring bar tool to compress the spring bar from one side and release it from the lug hole. Be gentle and take your time to avoid scratching the case.
Tips for a Smooth Installation
-
Handle your watch carefully, especially around the lugs
-
If the new strap feels loose or doesn’t click in, remove it and try again
-
Never force the strap. Quick-release mechanisms are designed for ease
-
Keep a spring bar tool handy if you ever switch to a traditional strap
3. Align the New Strap
Identify the correct sides:
-
The shorter end with the buckle goes on the top (12 o’clock)
-
The longer end goes on the bottom (6 o’clock)
4. Attach the New Strap
Using the built-in quick-release system on your Roiberd strap:
-
Insert one end of the spring bar into the lug hole
-
Slide the lever to compress the spring bar
-
Gently align and release it into the opposite lug hole until it clicks into place
-
Repeat for the other side
5. Check the Fit
Gently tug on each strap piece to ensure both ends are secure. The spring bars should be fully seated in the lug holes and not move freely.
