Leather care guide

At Roiberd Atelier, we work with premium vegetable-tanned leathers that are designed to last a lifetime. To ensure your piece remains beautiful and ages gracefully, follow these steps:

  1. Clean Gently and Regularly
Use a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and debris. For more thorough cleaning, dampen a cloth slightly with water and apply a leather cleaner specifically formulated for vegetable-tanned leather. Always test the product on an inconspicuous area first. Avoid harsh chemicals, as they can strip the leather’s natural oils.
  2. Hydrate with a Leather Conditioner
Every 3–6 months, nourish the leather with a high-quality, neutral leather conditioner, like Otter Wax. Using a soft cloth, apply a small amount in circular motions, ensuring even coverage. Let the leather absorb the conditioner naturally before buffing gently for a subtle sheen. This helps maintain its flexibility and prevents dryness or cracking.
  3. Protect Against Moisture and Heat
Leather is sensitive to water and heat. If your item comes into contact with moisture, blot it gently with a clean, dry cloth and allow it to air dry at room temperature—never use a hairdryer or direct heat. To safeguard your piece, consider applying a leather protector spray designed for vegetable-tanned leathers.
  4. Store Properly When Not in Use
When you’re not using your leather item, store it in a breathable cotton dust bag or box, away from direct sunlight and humidity. Avoid plastic bags, as they can trap moisture and encourage mold growth. If the item is folded, ensure it’s not under pressure to prevent permanent creases.
  5. Handle with Care
Avoid contact with sharp objects or rough surfaces that can scratch or damage the leather. If a scratch occurs, lightly rub it with your finger; the natural oils in your skin may help minimize its appearance.
  6. Let It Age Gracefully
Vegetable-tanned leather develops a unique patina over time, reflecting its journey and the care it receives. This natural aging process enhances its character, making it truly one of a kind. Proper care ensures that your leather becomes even more beautiful with time.
  7. Refresh Periodically
For heavily used items, you can revitalize the leather with professional care products or by consulting a leather expert. Routine maintenance will ensure your piece retains its quality and elegance for years to come.
